Co-Owner & President

Beth Morphis
Co-Owner & President
Beth has been flipping all of her life! She also danced and acted in her early days until she landed a spot on the first gymnastics team in Winston-Salem. Her love of the sport inspired her parents to open Salem Gymnastics Center in 1980 where she continued to teach and compete in gymnastics. This led her to a full gymnastics scholarship at Illinois State University.
Fate dealt an interesting blow during the fall semester of her freshman year. Beth suffered a torn ACL after a fall on the uneven bars - unfortunately, the injury required reconstructive knee surgery. She spent the next four months in a full leg cast, six months on crutches and two years in rehab. She learned many things during this time, including both patience and a giant swing on bars, in which she was the first ISU gymnast to compete.
After college, Beth came back home and along with her parents and husband, began running the family business. She has been a long-time NC-USAG Board Member and a speaker at both USAG State and Regional Congresses, SwimConsultant seminars and was an integral part of USAIGC Nationals from 1989-2001.
Additionally, she is the Founder GymStart, serves in lay leadership at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and loves to travel and listen to Jackson Browne. Beth is married to Kenny Morphis and has two awesome children, Jon and Alex. She loves working at Salem with her husband, father and son and feels very fortunate to have a job she looks forward to going to every day. Her hope is that the lives she touches will take the lessons learned and continue on to greatness wherever they go.

Susan Loper
Co-Owner & Vice President

Susan Loper
Co-Owner & Vice President
Susan is the sister of Beth Morphis and grew up doing gymnastics and dance. She enjoyed competing on the gymnastics team from age 6 to 16, then found that she enjoyed coaching and teaching others even more. She coached gymnastics through her college years, then went on to teach school. She holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood education and has taught pre-K and kindergarten for 23 years, in many different schools around the southeast. She has lived in 4 different states (NC, GA, AL and TN)! Now she enjoys working in the family business at Salem Gymnastics & Swim.
She is the mother of 3 young adults and has been married for more than 30 years. She moved back to Winston-Salem in 2021 and in addition to her role at the gym, she is currently leading seminars at Salem and around the community to help our children and their families be the best they can be.

Brian Loper
Director of Personnel
Brian Loper was born at an early age in Savannah, Ga. He dreamed of being a pro athlete and competing in the Olympics in sports he created, like speed mowing and roof ball. He would go on to compete in many sports, earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do while learning to count to 100 in Korean (a skill that has never served him well in life). Brian never mastered any sport but managed to play soccer in college because; well, it was there and it seemed like the right thing to do.
Brian would return to his hometown and allow the ministry to pursue him, taking his first job at a church at age 19. He volunteered in Young Life, where he met Susan, and after nearly three years of friendship and dating, she gave in to his desire to marry. More than thirty-three years later, they have three incredible adult children: Kristen, Shanna, and Austin.
Brian still dreams of being a pro athlete or competing in the Olympics but settles for walks and the prospect of knee replacement. These days, you can find Brian hanging around at Salem Gymnastics and Swim, trying to look busy.
